MACq 01 Hotel

Located along Hobart’s CBD waterfront is the MACq 01 Hotel. Opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic, the property sits on former Hunter Island, and the precinct has since evolved over the years. This locale was called Old Wharf and was later renamed to Ocean Pier, and this is now home to the MACq 01 Hotel.

The property actually tells stories of Tasmanian characters over the years, and these are embodied in the furnishings, antiquities, and artwork that line the common hallways and guest rooms.

The ground floor lobby and common spaces are arranged in a linear fashion, accentuated by the red carpet that runs lengthwise. Our room was ready at the time of our arrival, which was much appreciated.

The room layout was quite standard, except that it appeared to be more spacious than the usual. Right behind the king sized bed was a piece of art that formed the centrepiece of the room. The room was well lit with overhead lamps and reading lights for those who choose to read in bed.

Next to the bed was a spacious sofa nicely positioned for views of the wharf outside.

In front of the room was the wall mounted smart television, with a long work desk beneath.

There was a large wardrobe, perfect for those who love to unpack during their travels instead of living right out of their suitcases.

The bathroom was minimalist and spacious. Though without a bathtub, we appreciated the large rain shower.

The room also came with the usual amenities such as a minibar, and a selection of coffees and teas.

The fitness centre boasts a wide range of equipment for those who wish to keep fit during their travels. During our stay, the gym was practically quite empty whenever we dropped by.

As mentioned earlier, the MACq 01 Hotel is literally a storybook. Even in their restaurants and bars, you’ll find interesting exhibits that portray the history of Tasmania that are bound to excite you.

Overall, the MACq 01 Hotel is great for those who prefer a central location when visiting Hobart. The city is after all very walkable, and the hotel is well within reach of the main sights in Hobart. In the evenings, you can also enjoy a lovely stroll along the wharf as you head out for dinner and drinks!
