It’s the time of the year for travel and overseas spending! Several credit card offers are now live, that you can capitalise on as you plan for your year end travels.
Citi Premiermiles
From now until 31 Jan 2024, Citi Premiermiles cardholders can earn up to 4 mpd for overseas point-of-sale transactions in foreign currency. You must ensure you meet the minimum spend of S$5,000 (both local and overseas spend apply) for any given calendar month during the promotion period, but you can only enjoy the higher earn rate on the first S$5,000 in overseas point-of-sale foreign currency spend. This sounds weird, but basically both the minimum and maximum spend for this offer is S$5,000.
You would usually earn 2 mpd for overseas spend, and as part of this promotion, you will earn an additional bonus 2 mpd, subject to a cap of 10,000 bonus miles (hence the S$5,000 cap for the enhanced earn rate).
Registration is required. SMS “CITIPMCFX <space> last 4 digits of your Citi Premiermiles card” to 72484, and you’ll be enrolled onto the promotion once you receive an SMS notification.

Citi Prestige
This offer is somewhat similar to the Citi Premiermiles offer above, with some minor differences. From now until 31 Jan 2024, Citi Prestige cardholders can earn up to 4.5 mpd in foreign currency spend, for both physical and online transactions. You must meet the minimum spend of S$8,000 (both local and overseas spend apply) for any given calendar month during the promotion period, but you can only enjoy the higher earn rate on the first S$5,000 only.
You would usually earn 2 mpd for overseas spend, and as part of this promotion, you will earn an additional bonus 2.5 mpd, subject to a cap of 12,500 bonus miles (hence the S$5,000 cap for the enhanced earn rate).
Registration is required. SMS “CITIPRESFX <space> last 4 digits of your Citi Prestige card” to 72484, and you’ll be enrolled onto the promotion once you receive an SMS notification. This promotion is only available to the first 3,000 cardholders who successfully register via SMS.

Maybank Horizon Visa Signature
From now until 31 Jan 2024, Maybank Horizon Visa Signature cardholders will enjoy an uncapped 3.2 mpd for foreign currency spend (both physical and online), subject to a minimum spend of S$800 in any given calendar month during the promotion period.
This is a superior earn rate when compared with other general spend cards, such as the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite card that earns your 3 mpd for foreign currency spend with a minimum spend of S$2,000 per statement period. Of course, you can always rely on the handy UOB Visa Signature card, that earns you 4 mpd on foreign currency spend subject to a minimum of S$1,000 and maximum of S$2,000 per statement period, or 6 mpd for travel-related expenses (e.g. hotels, airlines etc.) if you have chosen the Travel category for your UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card. But by and large, this Maybank promotion will come in useful if you intend to splurge a little during your year end holidays.
Part of this promotion includes an enhanced 3.2 mpd earn rate for air tickets, subject to a cap of S$10,000 per calendar month during the promotion period, beyond which the usual 1.2 mpd applies. Note that if you transact your air tickets in foreign currency, then the uncapped provision applies (see earlier paragraphs).

Summary
The above promotions signal the usual year end holiday spending season. Do take note of the minimum spend requirements, alignment of spending to calendar months, and spending caps (if any), and plan your holiday spend overseas properly.
