Located at the intersection of Orchard Road and Scotts Road in Singapore’s prime shopping district is the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. The hotel was designed much like a pagoda with an octagonal floor plan, which sits atop Tang Plaza, an iconic shopping destination along Orchard Road.

The Bonvoy Elite front desk was available for us upon arrival. The check-in process proceeded smoothly, and we were soon issued our key cards after a short informative spill of the available facilities during our stay.

The lobby area also plays host to the lobby lounge. At three storeys high and topped with a skylight, the lobby appeared spacious and welcoming.

Heading up to our Executive Suite, it was evident that the upkeep of the property premises was maintained since the last refurbishment.

The main door of our suite opens directly into the living room, which has a large window that stretches the entire length of the room. Day and night curtains, as well as the ambient lighting, can be used to illuminate the room to your liking.

Also, the Executive Suite faces Orchard Road directly, offering uninterrupted views of the shopping belt.

A large L-shaped sofa and an armchair are arranged around a glass coffee table, perfect for hosting guests.

The large flat screen television mounted on the wall also gave the suite a sleek finish.
On the other side of the living room was a large marble work desk, fully fitted with power sockets for your electronic devices. The positioning of the table allowed for chairs on both sides, which would be great for more formal discussions in the comfort of your suite.

The guest WC is located right by the main door.

The bedroom is separated by a doorway. Closing both doors offers complete privacy from the living room area.
At the front of the bedroom, you’ll find a TV console that stretches the entire length of the room. Besides the drawers, the luggage rack also allows you to stow your personal effects neatly.

The large and comfortable king-sized bed was framed nicely by two bronze mirrors that effectively expanded the bedroom.

The armchair and floor lamp at the far end of the bedroom offered a nice finishing touch to the room.

The bathroom was perhaps the highlight of the entire suite. It was spacious with a double vanity. Note that the door actually opens into the corridor and can be opened from the inside. However, from the outside this door is completely unlabelled, so you shouldn’t encounter anyone trying to enter by mistake.

The bathtub was also large enough for two persons to fit comfortably.

The WC and walk-in shower are both arranged around the large open space within the bathroom.

Enclosed in clear glass, the walk-in shower didn’t seem to take up any space within the bathroom at all.

The wardrobe comes with the usual bathrobes, slippers, laundry bags, and a safe.

Some other amenities in the suite include the coffee machine and a minibar, both found in the living room.

As the executive lounge, otherwise known as M Club, was closed during our stay, the afternoon tea was being served at the lobby lounge. It was good to see that the tea set came with some champagne too.

Facilities wise, the hotel boasts a large open air swimming pool, surrounded by Pool Terrace Rooms. These rooms are great for those who love near-direct pool access during their stay.

There are also some cabanas available for guests to use while lounging by the pool.

The fitness centre had all the usual equipment, from cardio machines to cable strength machines, to free weights.

Right next to the fitness centre was a basketball court, which I never knew existed!

Once again, in place of the evening cocktails at M Club, there was a “Flavours of Happiness 4-course Dinner” being served at the lobby lounge, with free flow alcoholic beverages.

Breakfast was served at the Marriott Cafe. Instead of the usual buffet style breakfast, it was only possible to select from a list of food items on the menu to build your own breakfast set.

Overall, apart from the closure of the M Club, which meant a less than ideal setting for afternoon tea and evening cocktails, we were pleased with our stay at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. Located on a high floor, the Executive Suite was very much to our liking. Location wise, the hotel is perhaps one of the best options for those visiting the city state for a shopping spree!
