Swissôtel The Stamford in Singapore underwent a major refurbishment not too long ago, and I decided to check it out for myself. The property is located in City Hall, right in the middle of all the commercial activity around the civic district. For those who don’t already know, the hotel, formerly known as Westin Stamford, was the tallest hotel in the world at the time of completion. Currently, Swissôtel The Stamford still remains one of the tallest hotels in Southeast Asia.
The entire lobby was revamped to encourage guests to self-check in. In fact, all terminals are equipped to record your IDs and issue key cards to guests.
As an Accor Gold member, the staff decided to assist with the check in at a manned desk behind the row of self service counters.
The staff noted my Accor membership, and proceeded to check me in ahead of the official check in time. He also extended a late check out to me as it was available. I was informed at the time of my stay that the pool and gym were undergoing renovation. The gym at The Fairmont located just adjacent to Swissôtel The Stamford was available for guests to utilise though.
I was glad to be assigned a room high enough, and with a lovely view of the harbour. In my opinion, this property commands one of the best views of the Marina area here in Singapore.
The room was really sleek, with contemporary touches and tones aesthetically pleasing. I had some issues with the air conditioning but it seemed to cool down with time.
The work desk was ideally placed, with a comfortable corner sofa to go along with it.
My welcome amenity was conspicuously placed on the desk as well.
Everything was neatly tucked away nicely within the room, with smart furniture to thank for, including the minibar.
The wardrobe came with the usual bathrobes and slippers.
Right near the main entrance was a console on which to leave your suitcase, coats and other personal effects.
The bathroom was thoughtfully designed, with a full sized bathtub included, which also doubled as a shower.
The bathroom was stocked with all the necessary amenities for my stay. Also, no more concerns about where to hang your towels as bathrooms here come with towel racks.
I decided to check out the gym at The Fairmont, located right next to the Willow Stream Spa.
The gym seemed dated, but had all the usual gym equipment for a full body workout.
I was presented with complimentary drink vouchers as part of my Accor benefits, and I decided to redeem them at The Stamford Brasserie located right beside the main lobby. The establishment actually serves up quite a number of dishes too to go along with their rather extensive drinks list.
Swissôtel The Stamford certainly did the right thing with the extensive refurbishment works. I’m sure that guests welcome the updated interior design, but more importantly the property has upheld the high service standards befitting the Swissôtel brand.
