UOB announced today of the launch of a new KrisFlyer UOB credit card, designed to boost the way you earn miles.
Unlike the KrisFlyer UOB debit card which requires you to set up an account with UOB, the KrisFlyer UOB credit card should be made available to anyone with an annual income of at least S$30000.
This credit card allows you to earn 3 mpd for all transactions with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot, and KrisShop. In addition, you’ll earn 3 mpd for all transport, dining, and online transactions (subject to a minimum spend of S$500 with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot or KrisShop per year). It is not yet clear as to how these miles will be awarded for eligible purchases within the year given the minimum spend requirement with SIA Group. According to The Shutterwhale, all ‘accelerated miles’ will only be credited in the following year, provided that the minimum spend requirement with SIA Group is met for the year. All other transactions will earn you only 1.2 mpd.
According to The Milelion, there will be no cap on the bonus miles earned from the aforementioned spending categories.
Other notable perks include a fast track to KrisFlyer Elite Silver status, and 10000 bonus miles whenever you pay the annual fee.
This card isn’t the best card for those with a specialised spending strategy, that is, using different cards for different spend categories to maximise the miles earned. For example, the DBS WWMC allows you to earn 4 mpd for online transactions (including bookings on the SQ website), and the UOB PPV allows you to earn 4 mpd whenever you use the contactless payment method. Nonetheless, the KrisFlyer UOB credit card would be attractive to those who wish to hold onto fewer cards in their wallet.
More information will be released when the official T&Cs are released.
