The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has been named the world’s best airport hotel by Skytrax for 4 consecutive years, and there is little doubt as to why this hotel deserves this accolade. Strategically located alongside the world’s best airport, this hotel effectively connects and accommodates passengers at the crossroads of major air routes in the region and beyond.
The hotel is accessible directly from Terminal 3, which makes it convenient for guests checking in and out of the property.
Guests can also be dropped off at the main porch with direct access to the hotel lobby.
A dimly lit corridor leads guests directly to the main lobby, which was decorated to suit the Lunar New Year festivities. The red lanterns and banners really added a splash of colour to the dark toned interiors of the hotel lobby.
If you’re waiting for your room or a pick up, the lobby has lots of comfortable seating available.
The check in desks were pretty empty when I arrived, and I was processed fairly quickly. I was upgraded to the next room category as the one that I was booked in was full. I headed straight to my room, which did not have a view of the tarmac and runway. Nonetheless, the check in staff assured that I would happy with the pool view.
I was aware that guests who do not have club access may purchase it at the check in desk. I was, however, not offered this option. IHG automatically sends a survey immediately after check in to see if all their guests’ needs have been well looked after. I had indicated on this survey that I was not offered the option to purchase club access, and just minutes after submitting the survey, I received a call from the front desk, who offered to add this to my room account for a fee hassle-free. I must commend the staff here at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport for their promptness in addressing my feedback.
The room was larger compared to most standard hotel rooms. It could comfortably accommodate a king sized bed, a sofa, and a large work desk as well. The large floor-to-ceiling windows allowed lots of natural light to permeate the room, creating a healthy glow to it.
Here’s the pool view that was promised to me, and I was absolutely pleased with it.
The sofa was large and comfortable just to laze in front of the television, over some in-room dining perhaps.
The ledge that ran across the entire front of the room made for a convenient spot to place my bags and belongings.
The bathroom was also larger than usual, with a separate bathtub and standing shower. The glass partition with floral motifs provided minimal privacy, but blinds can be lowered should the need arise.
The sink area was fairly large, with toiletries neatly arranged for my use.
The minibar had the standard offerings, and next to it was a cupboard with an iron and an ironing board. Bathrobes were also provided.
While my room didn’t have views of the tarmac and runway, the corridors at the hotel are all open to the surroundings, so guests can catch a glimpse of some aircraft activity as well.
For an airport hotel, the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has some serious gym equipment to cater to the needs of most guests.
The gym was also well stocked with towels, drinking water, and even a vending machine with protein shakes.
The hotel also ensured that water elements feature prominently in the overall design, particularly along the common walkways. So if you’re visiting, watch your step!
At night, you can enjoy views of the beautifully lit pool, against the backdrop of the iconic control tower at Changi.
Here are some shots of the pool in the day. Notice how you can have a leisurely dip amongst the palm trees and vegetation. Despite this, I didn’t find a single leaf in the water, which meant that the pool was cleaned very regularly.
Overall, I can understand why the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport managed to clinch the top Skytrax award, for it has checks in all the right boxes for me. Not only is it conveniently located right next to the world’s best airport, it has rooms and facilities that can fulfil the needs of the modern day traveller. Finally, the lovely pool with views of departing and arriving aircraft would seal the deal for most travellers looking for a refreshing dip in sunny tropical Singapore.
