Singapore Airlines has launched an enhancement to its preflight meal selection option for premium class passengers. Customers travelling in Suites, First and Business Class can now pre-order their meals from the inflight menus, up to 24 hours before departure. There are plans to roll this out to Premium Economy Class in the future.
At present, Singapore Airlines offers Book the Cook service for passengers travelling in Suites, First, Business, and Premium Economy Class, from selected destinations:
I have always found the Book the Cook service very attractive as I will know with certainty the main course that I’ll be served on board. For those flights with no Book the Cook service, it was already previously possible to view the inflight menu prior to the flight, but Singapore Airlines has taken this one step further to allow premium class passengers to select their meals from the inflight menu.
I had chanced upon this when selecting my meals for my upcoming flight from Melbourne to Singapore. I still went ahead with the Book the Cook option, but for those who fly frequently enough and somehow get tired with Book the Cook dishes, this additional feature of allowing you to select from the inflight menu might prove to be very useful.
In all, this is a win-win situation for both passengers and airline to ensure that you get the dish you want, while effectively reducing the need to over-cater selected dishes on flights.
