SO Sofitel Singapore

Located right in Singapore’s central business district, the SO Sofitel Singapore is one of the more highly accessible properties in this city state. In fact, it is also located right next to Lau Pa Sat, a food haven for those who with to sample Singapore food and hawker fare at affordable prices.

As I was arriving by car, I was given advanced notice that on site parking was limited. However, there are alternative parking garages nearby should the lots at the hotel run out.

Entering the hotel, you’ll be immersed in the modern and hip vibe that this property exudes. The lobby was not too brightly lit, but with the wall of flashing hexagons, it certainly added an upbeat mood to the atmosphere.

As an Accor Plus Gold member, I was contacted by the property before my stay of an online check-in option, as well as other upgradable add-ons that were available. When I arrived for my stay, the staff upgraded my room to the next category, and offered a late check-out time of 3pm the following day.

Also, I was informed that all mini bar snacks and drinks were complimentary and free flow. Welcome drinks were also served at the front desk. I was already very pleased with the warm welcome treatment i was receiving.

After my key cards were issued, I was ushered to the lifts by the front desk staff. A quick tap on the sensor, a must-have security feature that all hotels should have, and I was on my way.

There were 2 distinct corridors on my floor, one with a significantly higher floor-to-ceiling height. Thankfully my room was located on that side, which meant a more spacious room for me.

Entering my room, I was very impressed. I felt that I had been whisked away to one of those European palaces with lovely charming interiors, but with a contemporary touch.

I appreciated the touch of wood all around, and the spaciousness of the entire room. In front of the king-sized bed was a sofa and arm chairs, perfect for a chat over tea or dinner while watching your favourite movie.

Need to work on-the-go? Don’t fret as the work desk comes with a comfortable chair and effective desk lamp for you to complete any work that you might have.

For those who prefer to read in bed, there are reading lights for you to do so. Request for more pillows to prop yourself up in bed too if you wish.

Right next to the bed is an iPad with all the controls you’ll need. From the drawing of the curtains to different light settings, everything can be accomplished with the touch of a button. You can also switch between television channels using this iPad, which I thought was a great move, given the number of tech-savvy guests these days.

On the other side of the bed, there was a smart phone that guests can take with them on day excursions around the city. Just remember to charge it before heading out.

And now for the bathroom. Taking up almost a third of the floor area of this huge room, the bathroom itself is something that, I can imagine, most guests will speak of.

Sitting in the centre of the bathroom is one of the biggest bathtubs that I’ve seen in a hotel. Enjoy a hot bath with champagne if you must, after a long and tiring day.

The shower and toilet are also available and can be accessed through glass doors.

No need to fight with your partner for the sink at this hotel, as the bathroom comes with two.

Remember the free flow minibar I mentioned earlier? Lots of snacks and drinks to choose from here, and have housekeeping replenish them anytime.

There are also a few cupboards available to stow your personal effects during your stay.

This hotel may seem small from the outside, but that didn’t stop them from having a very well equipped gym on the premises.

The roof top pool is also open to guests. Soak up the sun in the day, or admire the city lights at night.

The pool is also located next to the bar 1929, where guests can choose to enjoy their welcome drink.

Back at the lobby, guests can enjoy a wide selection of dishes at Xperience. Remember to present your Accor Plus membership card to enjoy further discounts when making payment.

SO Sofitel Singapore is certainly a hip and modern hotel to suit a younger crowd, but also has lots to offer that more mature guests will find appealing. As a member of the Accor Hotels programme, the hotel has done well to make their members and guests feel very much at home.
