As part of the transformation efforts undertaken by Singapore Airlines, selected routes currently being served by SilkAir will be transferred to its low cost arm Scoot. This will take place between April 2019 to the second half of 2020.
The routes that will be affected are shown below:
For travellers on SilkAir, what this means is that Business Class will no longer be featured in the aforementioned routes.
Also, KrisFlyer redemptions will no longer be worthwhile when these routes are served by Scoot, as the value of such redemptions can be abysmal.
Passengers currently booked on the affected flights will have the option of being transferred over to the corresponding Scoot flight serving the same destination, or they will be offered a full refund. I was personally affected by a similar situation when SilkAir handed the Langkawi route over the Scoot earlier this year. Since I was ticketed on SilkAir, I was automatically offered the option to be transferred to the Scoot flight on the FlyBagEat fare. Given that the flight was short, I had no qualms about the transfer.
Scoot will also be terminating its service to Honolulu due to weak demand on the route.
