Alaska MileagePlan is currently offering up to 40% bonus on miles purchased, and this offer is available through to 9 Apr 2018. The more miles you purchase, the bigger the bonus. If you purchase the maximum of 60000 miles, you will receive a bonus of 24000 miles, bringing your total to 84000, at a cost of 2.1 cents per mile. This is not the biggest sale that we’ve seen so far, but if you’re in serious need of some miles, you should take advantage of this. You’ll be able to redeem Alaska miles on Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific, which is great for trips between Asia and US.
One intra-Asia sector that you might want to explore is a one-way redemption on Japan Airlines between Singapore and another Southeast Asian city, via Japan. Yes you heard me right, you can travel from Singapore to, let’s say Jakarta, on a one-way trip through Japan, in JAL Business for just 25000 miles!
Stopovers are also allowed, so you can stay a few days in Japan before making your way home. The catch is that you will end up in another city, so you’ll have to reposition yourself back to Singapore. Hence, this isn’t a true return trip in the strictest sense.
Alternatively, you can begin your trip in another city before making your way to Japan, before flying back directly to Singapore.
JAL deploys B777 and B787 aircraft to Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, so you’ll get to experience their newest Business Class seats. So pair these cities to get the most out of your ‘one-way’ redemption.
I usually fly Singapore Airlines as much as possible, but hey, at this price, I think it’s going to be worth it!
