The non-stop flight from Singapore to Los Angeles, operated by United Airlines, will be launched on 29 Oct 2017.
This route will operated by the B787-9 aircraft as UA38, departing Singapore at 11:00AM and arriving in Los Angeles at 11:15AM on the same day. The return flight, UA37 will depart Los Angeles at 9:25PM and arrive in Singapore at 6:20AM two days later.
This, however, isn’t the first time any airline is operating the non-stop route. Singapore Airlines used to operate the A340-500 aircraft on this route, which was discontinued since 2013 due to profitability reasons. Singapore Airlines will resume non-stop operations between the two cities in 2018 when it takes its delivery of the A350-900ULR aircraft.
It seems that United wishes to keep one step ahead of Singapore Airlines in the ultra long-haul market between Singapore and continental United States. In fact, United and Singapore Airlines are already operating the non-stop Singapore-San Francisco route. Given the increasing number of such flights, there is definitely healthy passenger traffic and demand for non-stop ultra long-haul flights.
