Enjoy complimentary night stays with Citi Prestige

The Citi Prestige card comes with loads of special benefits. Apart from its decent miles earn rate of 1.3 mpd for local spend and 2 mpd for overseas spend, the card also has other travel specific benefits.

A few weeks ago I wrote about how Citi Prestige card holders can enjoy free wifi access at all Boingo hotspots across the globe, which is an awesome benefit for frequent travellers. Here, I will highlight another special feature of the Citi Prestige card, which involves complimentary night stays in any hotel around the world.

Essentially, the primary cardholder will enjoy a complimentary night with no black-out dates, when you book four consecutive nights at any hotel through the Citi Prestige Concierge. Note that bookings through other methods such as travel agents, websites, or even the hotel directly, will not qualify. The full amount must also be charged to your Citi Prestige card.

You will receive the complimentary night in the form of a credit based on the average nightly rate of your first four-night stay in the same hotel property, and taxes will not be credited. Hotel imposed fees and incidental guest charges will be borne by the Cardmember.

Now this is an awesome benefit, especially for trips involving prolonged stays at the same property. Essentially, you book four nights and the last night is free. Can you then perform back-to-back bookings at the same hotel and still qualify for the benefit? The answer is a resounding ‘no’. I guess they must have figured this out when people started performing such consecutive bookings in an attempt to qualify for the complimentary night stay. In addition, stays at the same hotel property on two reservations that are fewer than 7 nights apart between the last night of the first booking and the first night of the second booking do not qualify. The only way you can work around this is to book separate properties if your stay exceeds four days. For example, days 1-4 at the Hilton and days 5-8 at the Marriott will allow you to have complimentary nights on both stays.

This benefit is pretty useful for those intending to stay in excess of three days at any particular location, and wouldn’t mind moving between properties to maximise the benefit. Full terms and conditions can be found here.
