PARKROYAL on Beach Road is ideally located close to major malls around the City Hall and Bugis area, with loads of shopping and dining options. The building itself may be old, but the hotel has undergone massive refurbishment works for the interior. At the time of writing, the property is also undergoing renovation works on the building’s facade, so there will be much to look forward to in the coming months.
As a GHA Black member, I was accorded all the privileges that came along with the tier, such as the double upgrade and access to the Orchid Club. Typically, booking the entry level Superior Room should get you the Orchid Club Deluxe Room, which is located on the same floor as the Orchid Club. The check in was swift and I was also accorded the early check in at 9am, and a late check out time of 6pm on the following day.
Heading up to my room, I was really looking forward to the refurbished rooms. On the 6th floor landing, you’ll have to walk past a dedicated desk to handle Club rooms guest matters, as well as the Orchid Club itself, but more on that later.
Heading down the corridor, you’ll appreciate the curved layout of the property. Notice that the rooms are all located opposite each other, so you might be able to enjoy a room with a larger feel on the convex side as opposed to the concave side of the building.
The Orchid Club Deluxe Room was absolutely charming. I really loved the choice of furniture, colour and lighting for the room. It felt particularly spacious too, as this room was located on the convex side of the building.
The bed was very comfortable, and with abundant lighting around the room, coupled wth the relaxing headboard on the bed frame, you could enjoy a good read in bed.
Of course if you wish, the sofa was very comfortable too, with just the right firmness to use as a day bed. The marble top table was large enough for food and snacks to share. I was pleased to see my welcome amenities delivered to my room too.
Notice how sleek the front of the room looks. I sometimes struggle with unwanted furniture in hotel rooms, but this property has done away with a work desk for this room category, since the sofa and marble table are really more than adequate. Instead, there’s no clutter at the front of the room, just the huge wall mounted television, great for viewing from the bed or sofa.
The minibar was also well stocked, and I had a $10 room credit to expend during my stay.
The bathroom was a little small, but very well lit and furnished.
The wardrobe was also of decent size, with the usual room safe, bathrobes and slippers.
The Orchid Club is open for most of the day, but do visit during breakfast and evening cocktails for more substantial offerings. There’s one thing that stood out, and that was the attentiveness of the staff. All of them made an effort to ensure that all requests were well taken care of.
Importantly, the Orchid Club is a great place to simply chill, or to catch up with some work. Apart from the breakfast and evening cocktail hours, the lounge is usually quiet and peaceful.
The spread during breakfast and evening cocktails is quite impressive too!
The hotel has a pretty impressive gym, and it’s just a short walk along a sheltered walkway from the main hotel building.
The pool is also quite large, and deep! With unobstructed views to the south, you’ll get to enjoy panoramic views of the Marina Bay area. The pool side is also a great place to get a tan.
In terms of dining, the Si Chuan Dou Hua restaurant located on the premises serves up authentic Si Chuan dishes, great for lovers of spicy food!
The buffet restaurant located on the ground floor also serves up a great breakfast spread. Guests with access to the Orchid Club can also choose to have breakfast here instead, although the Orchid Club provides a more exclusive atmosphere.
Overall, PARKROYAL on Beach Road far surpassed my expectations. It’s also great to see that the property is constantly upgrading is premises to continue delivering only the best for its guests. I am certainly looking forward to the new building facade in the months to come.
