REX Lounge (MEL)

Having arrived on our flight from Singapore, we had to catch a domestic connection to our onward destination Launceston in Tasmania. We thereby made our way to Terminal 4 in Melbourne, where we decided to check out the REX Lounge.

From the outside, this lounge appeared rather ordinary. In fact, it did appear like some office space of sorts.

Through the sliding doors we had our Priority Pass access verified and boarding passes scanned for entry. The REX Lounge’s floorplan was linear and elongated, and did not feature floor to ceiling windows. Only the top third of the walls allowed natural light to enter, and where we could spot some aircraft movement on the apron.

Near the entrance were some arm chairs arranged around a coffee table, very much like what you would see in a typical living room. A wall mounted television also allowed passengers to catch up on the latest news.

Along the wall were a couple of computer terminals that served as a business desk for passengers to catch up on last minute work or to print documents.

There were also bar countertop style furniture set against the length of the wall, where power sockets were also conveniently within reach.

For those who require more comfortable seating, there were lounge chairs and coffee tables arranged in clusters around the lounge. The furniture being movable meant the chairs can be rearranged where necessary to accommodate various group sizes of travel parties.

At the end of the lounge was the F&B corner. Here, there was the usual coffee and tea, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks such as fresh fruit and chips.

Placed in one tight corner of the lounge was a massage chair, which had definitely seen better days.

Despite the simplicity of the lounge, it did make some effort to decorate and spruce up the space. All around the lounge you would find display cabinets, flower vases and various artwork mounted on walls.

Overall, the lounge appeared fine, perhaps due to the low passenger traffic at the time of our visit. Most importantly, the premises were kept very clean and neat at all times, so no complaints there. If you just need some peace and quiet to chill before a flight, the REX Lounge should suffice.
