Given the state of play with regard to international travel in light of the present pandemic situation, those who yearn to travel may have to resort to local staycations in the meantime. For Singaporeans, where domestic travel is not quite possible, perhaps spending some leisure time on the island of Sentosa is as offshore as one can get. It is no wonder why W Singapore Sentosa Cove has been very popular among locals since the property re-opened its doors to receive guests again.
This time, we were excited to stay in the Marvelous Suite. At 861 square feet, the suite was sure to impress. But more on that later.
The check-in process was quite straightforward, albeit with some additional information provided on some crowd control measures implemented, that had a slight impact on the use of facilities within the property.
The suite was ready slightly ahead of schedule, and we were glad that our request to have the one with a wrap-around balcony was met. Entering the Marvelous Suite, you’ll be impressed by the sheer size of the living room. It was large enough to accommodate a handful of guests. The crescent-shaped sofa framed the living space nicely, and provided a comfortable way to laze in front of the television.
The iconic pink mood lighting and other pendant lamps provide just the right amount of ambient lighting for a cozy setting.
Facing the wall is a work desk complete with power sockets for charging your electronic devices. Drinking water was also provided and placed all around the suite.
Right by the entrance is the minibar complete with snacks and other beverages for your convenience.
The WC is also directly accessible from the living room so your guests need not intrude the master bedroom to use your private bathroom.
Next is the bedroom. Situated right in the corner of the building, you’ll get to enjoy sweeping views of both the swimming pool and the marina.
The television is strategically placed right at the corner of the bedroom so it won’t obstruct your views of the surroundings.
Just for fun, the suspended “egg” swing chair adds a degree of quirkiness to the room as well. Note that the swing chair also has a chain at the bottom that safely secures it to the floor, to effectively limit the range of motion of the swing chair.
From the bedroom, walk through the sliding glass door to access probably one of the most beautiful bathrooms I’ve been in. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offer unobstructed views of the swimming pool below, but that also means that you’ve gotta remember to lower the blinds for your privacy.
The standalone bathtub is perhaps the key highlight of the entire bathroom. It’s definitely large enough for two persons, and for special occasions, the staff are more than happy to provide you with a bath bomb for you to celebrate in the tub while enjoying your very own bubble bath.
The walk-in shower and WC both share the same glass sliding door, so you can get privacy for either and not both at the same time.
Back in the bedroom, the bedside switches allow you to toggle the mood lighting all within an arm’s reach while you’re in bed.
The bedroom also has a walk-in wardrobe that can be closed off by means of a double wooden door.
Since this suite has a wrap-around balcony, you can actually access it from either the living room or the bedroom. Remember to keep the sliding doors shut or the room’s smart environmental control system will turn of your air conditioning to prevent energy wastage.
Once again, given that this is a corner suite, you’ll get to enjoy panoramic views of the swimming pool and the marina as well.
And now for the use of the facilities. Almost everyone wants to wade in the pool here at W Singapore. But of course as mentioned earlier, with crowd control measures in place, guests will have to pre-book slots to access the swimming pool. When you arrive at the pool for your slot, you’ll be issued with a wristband that’s colour coded so that the staff can identify the guests who should be at the pool at any given time of the day.
You can still order drinks and snacks from the poolside bar to complete your experience.
If you’re unable to access the pool for whatever reason, such as inclement weather during the day for example, you’ll be happy to know that the pool is accessible to all during the night, from sunset to sunrise.
The gym, otherwise known as FIT, is also open to guests at this time, and you’ll have to book a time slot to access the facility as well.
In order to ensure safe distancing between guests, some equipment have been cordoned off from being used in the meantime.
If you don’t wish to drive out for your meals, do visit Skirt for their Iberico Pork Tomahawk or their grilled Maine lobster, both of which are sure to impress.
At the time of my stay, The Kitchen Table was undergoing some renovations, so a makeshift marquee was set up as an alternative dining venue. This is also where the overflow seating for breakfast is located.
Breakfast is served primarily in Skirt, and yes, you’ll have to book a time slot for this too. Instead of the usual buffet style breakfast affair, you’ll have to order from a menu and the staff will serve your orders directly to your table.
Enjoy local delights such as laksa, congee, and dim sum, as well as Western and Continental breakfast sets too.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the W Singapore Sentosa Cove this time round. The Marvelous Suite was simply amazing, and the bathroom was perhaps the highlight of the suite. Despite the additional crowd control measures in place, it is still possible to enjoy the use of the facilities such as the pool and gym. Just remember to pre-book your slots so that you wun be disappointed during your visit. F&B wise, the food and service at Skirt was as splendid as ever, and the breakfast service, while unlike the usual buffet, was still pretty impressive.
