Additional bonus miles for overseas spend using your Standard Chartered X card

The Standard Chartered X card was launched last year to much fanfare with its 100000 bonus miles sign up offer, although the promotion was gradually tapered down over the months to the current 30000 miles sign up offer.

Usually, this card wouldn’t stand out as a great card for earning miles for general spending, with only 1.2 mpd for local spend and 2 mpd for overseas spend. This pales in comparison to its sister card, the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite card, which earns you 1.4 mpd for local spend and 3 mpd for overseas spend (subject to a minimum spend of S$2000 per statement period). However, with this card being discontinued, the X card has to up its game in order to remain relevant among cards favoured by miles chasers.

From now until 30 Jun 2020, you can earn up to 3 mpd for overseas spend, subject to a minimum spend of S$2000 per promotion period. The various promotion periods are shown below:

For avoidance of doubt, all eligible spend must be charged and posted to your card account within each promotion period to count towards the minimum spend of S$2000, before the bonus miles can be credited. Any transaction in foreign currency should count towards the eligible spend amount, with the exception of some types of transactions as laid out in their T&Cs.

As this promotion covers the June school holiday period, this promotion might come in handy for those with the Standard Chartered X card and intend to travel abroad. The overseas miles earn rate puts this card on par with the BOC Elite Miles World Mastercard, which also earns you 3 mpd for overseas spend. But of course, if you do have the UOB Visa Signature card, you stand to earn 4 mpd for all overseas spend, subject to a minimum equivalent spend of S$1000 and a maximum equivalent spend of S$2000 per statement period.
