Air New Zealand Lounge (MEL)

If you’re a premium class passenger on Air New Zealand or any other Star Alliance carrier, or a Star Alliance Gold member for that matter, you’ll want to visit the Air New Zealand lounge located in Terminal 2 of Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.

Simply follow the signs to the lounge on the airside after security.

I was warmly greeted by the counter staff upon presenting my Singapore Airlines Business Class boarding pass, and was kindly reminded that there wouldn’t be any flight calls or announcements within the lounge.

The floor space was expansive, with lots of seats throughout the lounge. The lounge was definitely capable of handling many passengers, but thankfully it was quite quiet during my visit.

Most armchairs came equipped with charging ports located under the side tables, so you won’t have to worry about running out of battery for your electronic devices.

The lounge did have a bar, but there wasn’t much activity there, although drinks could be prepared upon request.

Beverages can also be found along the entire length of the food bar area.

The selection of food was quite limited, but given that I was intending to visit other lounges before my flight, I was quite satisfied.

Passengers can choose to dine within the dining area before adjourning to a quieter spot within the lounge.

Some seats are located by the windows, which provide a somewhat limited view of the tarmac. Since the lounge is located on the ground floor, the view of the tarmac isn’t what you would expect from a lounge that’s usually perched a little higher in the terminal building, providing a better view of ground movements at the airport.

In terms of literature, you’ll find freshly stocked magazines on shelves around the lounge for your reading pleasure.

There’s also a small business corner for last minute printing of documents if necessary.

Overall, the Air New Zealand lounge is great for passengers travelling on Star Alliance carriers who just need some peace and quiet to perhaps read a book or complete some work before their flight. Given the high seating capacity of the lounge, you’ll have no issues finding a quiet spot for yourself.
