The American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer credit cards have been around for awhile, and various promotions for certain category spending may prove useful if you want to accumulate more miles.
The beauty about these promotions is that upon successful registration, most conveniently accomplished via the Amex SG app, you’ll receive an email confirmation that you have been enrolled for the promotion. Also, whenever you spend with the card that you have registered for the promotion, you’ll receive an email stating that once successfully posted, that transaction (if eligible) will earn you those bonus miles. Hence, there is no ambiguity at all when it comes to determining whether you’ve earned the bonus miles.
There are currently a few promotions available, so I’ll list some of them. The Amex KrisFlyer card has a base earn rate of 1.1 mpd, while the Ascend card has a base earn rate of 1.2 mpd. The Amex Singapore Airlines PPS and Solitaire PPS cards have a base earn rate of 1.3 mpd.
Grab
You’ll earn a bonus of 2 mpd when you spend with Grab, subject to a cap of S$200 per calendar month. This also includes GrabPay top-ups. This means that depending on which cobrand card you hold, you can earn anything between 3.1 to 3.3 mpd.
Mobile Wallet Transactions
From now until 15 Jun 2019, you’ll earn a bonus 4 mpd when you use your Amex KrisFlyer cobrand cards on Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay, subject to a cap of S$300 for the promotion period. This means that depending on which cobrand card you hold, you can earn anything between 5.1 to 5.3 mpd.
Daily Essentials
Now this is the latest string of promotions that Amex has added to encourage those in the miles game to earn more miles. For an indefinite period from now, you can spend at any of the merchants shown below to earn a bonus 2 mpd, subject to a cap of S$200 per calendar month. This means that depending on which cobrand card you hold, you can earn anything between 3.1 to 3.3 mpd.
Foreign Currency Spend
From now until 30 Apr 2019, you can earn a bonus 3 mpd when you use your Amex KrisFlyer cobrand card for overseas spend, subject to a cap of S$500 during the promotion period. This means that depending on which cobrand card you hold, you can earn anything between 4.1 to 4.3 mpd. This promotion seems to be targeted, so do register your card for the promotion if you can view it on your Amex SG app.
Overall, the Amex KrisFlyer cobrand cards can prove to be useful for certain category spend, so continue to keep an eye out for these promotions. For the ‘Daily Essentials’ promotion, it is hoped that the list of eligible merchants will continue to grow to increase the attractiveness of the promotion as a whole.
