Chateau on the Park – Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton

Located on the fringe of Hagley Park and the the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, the Chateau on the Park Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton property, provides a tranquil stay amid a laid back and peaceful setting. Sitting on 5 acres of land, this property boasts an exterior that takes you back in time. But don’t let the facade fool you, for the interiors have been refurbished to reflect the modern interiors that we are more familiar with today.

If you don’t like to travel light like me, you’ll have the option to leave your car right next to the main lobby entrance while you offload your bags.

My reservation was easily located by the front desk, and the staff welcomed me as a Hilton Honors Gold member, and thanked me for my patronage. The room keys were issued promptly, and the staff took the trouble to highlight the key facilities within the hotel.

The lobby area was pretty large, which can accommodate the guest traffic during the peak check in and check out periods.

There were also some computer terminals for guests to use, and a stand for guests to help themselves to all the pamphlets of major attractions in and around Christchurch.

Heading up to my room, I was glad to see that the hotel was generous with the space. Or it could be the light tones used in the room that created the illusion that the room appeared larger than usual.

There was a comfortable chair and a coffee table located right by the window.

In front of the room was a neat desk designed to feature added storage. The choice of the table lamp was befitting of the overall interior design of the room.

In need of more space? Don’t fret as there is also a wardrobe right next to the full length mirror next to the bed.

The bathroom seemed to be a little outdated, but it was acceptable size-wise.

You’d like to know that the hotel has a fairly decent fitness room, with an all-in-one cable machine with various attachments, some cardio machines, as well as free weights. You’ll get a good view of the surrounding greenery while you’re on the treadmill.

If you’ve got some time, be sure to take a stroll among the rose gardens around the hotel.

Or if you prefer to remain indoors, you could explore the seemingly endless walkways around the property, that also provide lovely views of the surrounding lush greenery and water features.

The hotel also has plenty of common spaces for guests to simply lounge in, over a cup of tea perhaps.

As a Hilton Honors Gold member, breakfast was complimentary for me during my stay, and the buffet spread was very decent. Guests can choose to either dine indoors, or in the garden located just outside the restaurant.

I was pretty pleased with my stay at the Chateau on the Park Christchurch, and the Hilton hospitality was very evident throughout my entire stay. The only issue is that the hotel is quite a distance from the city centre, so this might be more favourable for guests who drive, or who wouldn’t mind taking public transport to get around town.

But otherwise this property is great for those who love nature and greenery, and who have an appreciation of the charming architecture that the hotel has to offer.
