Singapore Airlines has an ongoing sale for Premium Economy seats on the non-stop flights from Singapore to Los Angeles and Newark. Specifically, you are able to purchase a return ticket on one of these non-stop flights for as low as S$1398 return.
If you’re already a KrisFlyer member, note that the fare class allows for a 100% accrual of miles for these sectors flown. This means that for a return flight to Los Angeles, you will earn 17540 miles, and for a return flight to Newark, you will earn 19068 miles. If you fly two of these return flights, you’ll be pretty close to renewing your KrisFlyer Elite Gold status for another year, which requires 50000 Elite miles per membership year.

The Milelion has pointed out that fare class ‘R’ allows for a 300% accrual with Lufthansa’s Miles & More programme. While Lufthansa has a higher threshold to qualify for Gold status, if Lufthansa honours the 300% accrual rate for the return Premium Economy Class tickets, you could potentially get the Star Alliance Gold status from just two return flights to Los Angeles.
I am personally not sure if Lufthansa will honour the fare class should they decide to amend the accrual rates, but if you are already halfway to renewing your KrisFlyer Elite Gold membership for another year and have plans to travel to the US in the near future, it might be worthwhile to simply make use of this ongoing promotion to do so.
