A few weeks ago, Singapore Airlines announced a new codeshare partnership with Alaska Airlines, providing more flexibility for customers from both airlines, and expanding SIA’s footprint in the North American market.
Here’s what you can expect should you wish to capitalise on this frequent flyer programme partnership between the two airlines.
Earning Miles
If you are intending to visit North America, fly with Alaska Airlines and you can earn at least 100% of the miles flown on all booking classes in Economy, and up to 150% if you fly with First Class on Alaska Airlines.
Note that as of 1 Oct 2017, United Airlines will not earn you as many miles as before, as they have stratified the accrual rates according to booking classes.
Hence, flying Alaska Airlines within the Americas seems to be a more attractive option now.
Redeeming Miles
You can also redeem your KrisFlyer miles with Alaska Airlines. Note that if you wish to redeem your KrisFlyer miles on other Star Alliance partners, the following chart applies.
For example, if you wish to travel between California and Mexico on Economy with a Star Alliance partner, you will have to redeem 17500 KrisFlyer miles. However, using the chart below, the same sector with Alaska Airlines will only cost you 12000 KrisFlyer miles.
Hence, think carefully before deciding to redeem your KrisFlyer miles with other Star Alliance partners within the Americas as there can be sweet spots if you redeem your miles with Alaska Airlines
